The York County Solid Waste Authority kicked off its 37th annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program. The program is free for all York County residents and gives people an eco-friendly option to throw out their trees. 鈥淭his time of year, there鈥檚 a lot of waste and trash left over,” said Christofoletti. “People don鈥檛 think of their Christmas tree being part of that waste, but it is.鈥

The waste management group says it collects between 300-400 trees each year after the holidays. All of the trees will be shipped to H&H General Excavating in Spring Grove where they will be turned into mulch. 鈥淭he big buzzword right now is sustainability and that鈥檚 a way to recycle these trees into something brand new,” said Christofoletti.

The YCSWA has its Christmas tree recycling bin located at 2651 Blackbridge Rd. in Manchester Township in York. Anyone dropping off Christmas trees must remove any ornaments, lights, tinsel, and protective bags before throwing them away.
