Closed since 1997, the landfill now contains 18,216 solar panels on over 28 acres of land. \u00a0The 5 megawatt (MW) capacity generates enough energy to power 1,000 homes in the region.

<\/span>“Solar farms require a lot of area, and closed landfills make excellent sites for them,” said\u00a0Chris DeSantis, Area Vice President, Waste Management. “Waste Management has developed similar projects at other closed facilities across the country.\u00a0 We are pleased to add\u00a0Hudson\/Stow, which is now one of four closed landfill sites in\u00a0Massachusetts\u00a0that are generating renewable, solar energy.”\u00a0
Two additional sites – MT Sullivan Landfill in\u00a0Chicopee, MA\u00a0– 2 MW; and Berkley Landfill in\u00a0Berkley, MA\u00a0\u2013 3.6 MW were also developed by Captona Partners while the fourth site \u2013 Hunt Road LF in\u00a0Amesbury, MA\u00a0\u2013 4.5MW was developed by Citizens Energy Corporation.\u00a0
Collectively, the four solar farms generate enough energy to power approximately 3,000\u00a0Massachusetts\u00a0homes.<\/span><\/p>\n
