The Office of Sustainability’s annual move-in weekend cardboard recycling program introduces new students to campus recycling efforts. This year, volunteers helped students and parents recycle 13 tons of cardboard during move-in weekend, highlighting the University’s commitment to sustainability.Cardboard and plastic wrap are two of the most common waste materials during move-in weekend.

Cardboard is also a major recyclable year-round, accounting for approximately 50% of the University’s single-stream recycling.WVU uses a single-stream recycling system, which means all recyclable materials—such as cardboard, plastics, aluminum and steel cans, glass (brown, clear, and green), paper, and drink cartons—can be placed in the same bin. Recycling bins in offices, meeting rooms and hallways are labeled with guidelines on what can be recycled.
