Today, people across the country will celebrate Earth Day and promote clean air, land and water. On Saturday, Waste Pro got kids in on the fun early with its annual Earth Day picnic. The weather was perfect to fire up the grills, enjoy a day at the park and celebrate Earth. Even at just 5 years old, Kellan Armbrust knows how special Earth is as our one and only. 鈥淭he other planets are…can鈥檛 live,” he said, “Some people call this the Goldilocks planet. Not too hot and too cool.鈥
His dad Bryan Armbrust said it鈥檚 never too early to teach kids to be environmentally conscious. That鈥檚 why the sustainability graduate student brought them out to Little Children鈥檚 Park Saturday, not just for a day to play, but to learn more about keeping Mother Earth clean. 鈥淭oday, you wouldn鈥檛 be able to tell because it鈥檚 beautiful, but a lot of the research out there is very worrisome,” he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 something that we need to pay special attention to and do whatever we can, whenever we can to try to make sure that they鈥檙e future is going to be the same kind of world that we got to experience growing up.鈥
Waste Pro said this annual event is just one way they extend their mission far beyond just collecting garbage. 鈥淲e have little games like recycle relay and an Easter egg hunt for them to share a little knowledge to get them more in tune with our Earth to promote recycling and different events,” said John Geboy. “We care about our communities with Waste Pro, and so we鈥檙e here to enjoy our partnership and just to enjoy each other.鈥
