A new partnership between Long Creek Resources LLC and the Vermont Solid Waste Program is encouraging kids to get scrappy. The School Compost and Recycling Action Plan Institute, or SCRAPI, is a new initiative aimed at improving waste management practices in Vermont鈥檚 K-12 schools by encouraging school teams to develop strategies to improve their waste management.

School teams selected for the free institute will participate in two immersive, day-long workshops on June 30 and July 28, where they will collaborate with experts to develop tailored plans focused on reducing waste, enhancing recycling efforts, improving food waste management, and integrating sustainable materials management into school culture and curricula.

鈥淭his initiative is specifically targeted to K-12 schools in Vermont to just try and get them some of the funding and support they need to improve waste management practices, but also to integrate learning about waste management and why it matters into curriculum,鈥 said Long Creek Resources Principal and Lead Organics and Agriculture Scientist Kate Porterfield.
