As you are contemplating a branding or growth strategy through different types of marketing, consider EDDM as an option. Not only will you find that it is effective in reaching potential customers with a more personal touch, but it also cuts through the noise of digital marketing.

Whether you are a waste hauler, recycler, or C&D removal company, communicating with customers is essential to your business. While the most popular process today involves automation and electronic methods, there is still an essential approach that will help your business maintain profitability.

Every Door Direct Mail
As a great way to find new customers and grow your business activity, Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) is a postcard sent out by the post office that goes right into potential and current customers’ mailboxes. It allows you to include information on the front and back about your company, including:
• Company description
• Mailing Address
• Website and E-mail
• QR Code
• Images

The Benefits of EDDM
Today’s postage stamp is $0.73—the highest it has ever been in the history of the post office, so it can get a little expensive if you would like to send information to your current list of customers. Then, if you want to get new customers, you generally have to buy a list and run it through a software to confirm the addresses are correct. It can be a tedious and costly process. With EDDMs, you can send them out for $0.20. Plus, you can partner with a company that produces the postcard that has been custom-tailored to your specifications. This includes wording and artwork and sending the finished product to drop at the post office. The the best thing about it is that you do not need a list in order to deliver it to every door in a certain zip code or route.

If you visit the U.S. postal website and type in EDDM, you can choose a zip code. Once you get to the map that indicates the zip code you want, it will show sub routes all around the area or where you want to send the postcards—each route usually has between 400 to 600 households. In addition, the route also shows you what is the mean or average income of the route, so if you are focusing on high income clients you can sort it by those specifications.

Things to Consider
If you are looking at sending any postcard, there are about five different sizes you can use. (Explain which sizes would be best for what you want to communicate. example – bigger one for an overiew, little one for a special, etc.)
People are always moving. You want your business to stand out. I would recommend including the following information on the EDDM:
• A new service you would like people to know about
• A special or discount going on at the time
• QR code in order to get potential clients to go to your website, a video, or a direct page with your services and pricing
• Google ratings, especially if they are high or you have a + rating
• Better Business Bureau or Angie’s List rating
• Any visuals that will help to emphasize your business

Put as much information on the postcard to make you as beneficial to the client as possible, so they know how long you have been in business, guarantees, how many workers and trucks you have, speed of services, etc.

A Targeted Message
As you are contemplating a branding or growth strategy through different types of marketing, consider EDMM as an option. Not only will you find that it is effective in reaching potential customers with a more personal touch, but it also cuts through the noise of digital marketing. EDMMs can keep your business on top of customers’ minds and alert them to a new service, special pricing, deals, expansions, and more. Get your targeted message to the right customers and reap the benefits. | WA
