How safe are your operations? Prevent injuries and fatalities.

FREE VIRTUAL SUMMIT ON SAFETY ISSUES

March 20, 2025,  1:00 pm – 3:30 pm ET

Sponsored by:

All solid waste employers – big nationals, major regional companies, haulers, and municipal sanitation departments – face similar safety challenges. Workers at smaller waste collection companies and municipal sanitation departments are more likely to die on the route or in an accident at a disposal facility.

This FREE Summit will go beyond best practices and provide actionable tools and information to reduce improper behavior that contributes to fatalities, injuries, and collisions.

Protecting Every Worker, Every Route. Safety starts with you.

Agenda:

1:00 – 1:05: Welcome (Angelina Ruiz and David Biderman)

1:05 – 1:15: Rethinking Health & Safety

  • David Biderman – President, Biderman Consulting, LLC

1:15 – 1:45: Changing the Safety Culture

  • Moderator: David Biderman – President, Biderman Consulting, LLC
  • Shawn Mandel – Vice President, Safety and Risk Management, Waste Connections
  • Paul Zambrotta – Director of Safety, Boro-Wide
  • Dave Bennett – Public Works Solid Waste Director, City of Scottsdale, AZ
  • Nathan Brainard – Division President, Insurance Office of America

Learn from a variety of private sector and municipal safety leaders about how they improved the safety culture in their operations and reduced incidents and injuries. This requires strong management leadership and an understanding that safety does not take a back seat to productivity. Although providing more safety training to new and existing drivers/helpers is important, and safety signs are nice, they are only individual components of a broader safety vision that results in lower costs, less employee turnover, and fewer incidents. You will hear about real world examples that you can apply to your employees.

  • Raghav Mecheri – CEO, BinIt

There are a growing number of fires in waste and recycling trucks, at recycling facilities, and landfills. Although lithium ion batteries are often the cause of these fires, there are a wide variety of items in the waste stream that can contribute to a fire. In addition, some truck fires occur for other reasons (failure to remove paper behind the cab) or due to conditions at the landfill. A panel of fire prevention experts will discuss how fires in waste facilities can be prevented and responded to quickly to minimize property damages and injuries.

3:00 – 3:20: Post-Collection Safety

  • Moderator – Angelina Ruiz, Publisher, Waste Advantage
  • Clay Layne – Senior Sales Support Consultant, Waste Applications, Caterpillar
  • Mitch Cowart – Senior Sales & Marketing Strategy Consultant, Safety Technology Team, Caterpillar
