The Household Hazardous Waste facility at the Ada County Landfill is now accepting more items that could be dangerous if included in general trash. Items with lithium-ion batteries, like e-cigarettes and vape devices, can be dropped off for free for proper disposal.

County staff at the facility collect items that cannot go into the general landfill site and work with national specialty waste company Clean Earth to responsibly recycle, reuse or dispose of hazardous materials. Dylan Potter is the Environmental Compliance Manager at the Ada County Landfill, he said the overall goal of the landfill is to keep as much stuff out of the dump as possible.

鈥淐ertain things can be recycled. Other things are alternative fuels, where there’ll be burns incinerated, and that heat product will actually be used as a fuel source for like cement kilns or energy generation. So it really depends on what the product is, but really our goal as a county is to make sure that as much of this is being recycled as possible, that those products aren’t just being destroyed, that they’re having a beneficial use after their end of life with the residents here.”
