The Ottawa Sandusky Seneca Solid Waste District alongside the City of Fostoria Mayor鈥檚 Office announce the availability of recycling bins for household recyclable items, provided by The Ottawa Sandusky Seneca Solid Waste District (OSS). This initiative, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, will offer Fostoria residents a convenient way to participate in recycling efforts. The OSS Board’s cooperation has been instrumental in addressing the need for accessible recycling options in Fostoria. In collaboration with the City of Fostoria, a dedicated site at Foundation Park, 1225 S. Union St., Fostoria, has been prepared to accommodate the new recycling bins, ensuring residents have easy access to this essential service. “We are excited to see the positive impact this program will have on our community,” said Gary Baty, OSS Solid Waste District Executive Director. “By working together, we can significantly reduce waste and promote a sustainable future for Fostoria.”

Fostoria Mayor Don Mennel commented on the new initiative, stating, 鈥淲hile this project has taken longer than we would have liked, we have done it right. We have lighting and cameras on site to ensure that people do not leave garbage or other items that cannot be recycled. We are also installing bins for recycling clothing and shoes.鈥Mennel continued, 鈥淲e are grateful to OSS for their help and cooperation in getting this effort off the ground. We look forward to working with them on special projects like tire recycling in the future.鈥

Residents are encouraged to use the provided bins for a variety of recyclable materials, including paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and containers, as well as aluminum and steel cans. Detailed guidelines on what can be recycled will be available to ensure proper use of the bins and to maximize the effectiveness of the program. While we encourage all residents to participate in this important initiative, it is essential that the recycling bins are used appropriately. Only designated recyclable materials should be placed in the bins, and no hazardous waste or non-recyclable items should be disposed of in them. Proper use of the bins will ensure the success and longevity of the program. All recyclables should be empty clean and dry before being put in the bin.

Tim Hassinger, OSS Communications & Outreach Specialist, highlighted the importance of proper recycling practices, stating, “By keeping the recycling bins free from contamination, residents help maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of our recycling efforts. Following the guidelines will ensure the program benefits everyone in our community.”
