The U.S. EPA has recently awarded the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) a grant totaling $1,483,400 for the acquisition of 21 new heavy vehicle models. This grant aims to fund the procurement of vehicles that are projected to reduce diesel emissions significantly, compared to older models currently in the DSWM fleet. The funding is provided under the EPA鈥檚 2023 Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) program, which is designed to advance the agency鈥檚 goal of fostering a clean and healthy environment, as well as ensuring clean air for all.
鈥淭his EPA grant represents a significant advancement toward establishing a more resilient, cleaner and healthier environment for our community,鈥 said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. 鈥淭his investment in our fleet not only demonstrates our commitment to sustainability but also helps protect the well-being of our residents and the quality of our air. Together, we are making strides toward a healthier future for all.”
鈥淲e are extremely gratified by this award, which empowers us to further our mission to 鈥榩rovide our customers with exceptional waste collection and disposal services that protect, preserve, and improve our environment鈥 and making Miami-Dade a more sustainable and resilient community,鈥 stated DSWM Director Aneisha Daniel, PhD.
