Mesa County recently approved contract extensions for its mattress recycling program. There were two contract extensions approved during a public Mesa County Commissioners meeting, and part of their approval signifies that the agreements will not exceed $450,000.

The first contract extension continues a partnership between Mesa County and Spring Back Colorado for mattress recycling operations. 鈥淭his allows us to capture mattresses incoming at the landfill and divert those materials to a recycling facility in Denver. 99% of mattresses can be recycled,鈥 said Cody Schmalz, a site manager with Mesa County Landfill.

The agenda item for this contract extension does state: 鈥淥f the collected mattresses, approximately 63% of them are recyclable.鈥 The second contract extension handles the delivery operations. The approval of the contracts will continue to help the county save space and money at the landfill.
