This position will serve as a Community Recycling Specialist to provide technical, policy, and planning assistance to counties, municipalities, state agencies, universities, community colleges and other recycling and material generators throughout North Carolina. This position is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in making a statewide impact on growing and improving recycling programs and actively help the state increase recycling and waste diversion strategies in all 100 counties of North Carolina. A part of the Recycling and Materials Management Section (RMMS) within the Division of Environmental Assistance and Customer Service, this position will help RMMS expand and improve recycling infrastructure and programs statewide while engaging local governments to assist in localized waste diversion programs. These initiatives are accomplished through technical assistance, grant programs, data collection and reporting, statewide educational and outreach campaigns, and promoting key strategies to achieve progress in local recycling and waste diversion efforts and grow North Carolina鈥檚 circular economy. RMMS engages with local governments on a wide array of waste reduction, recycling, and solid waste issues, including the development of source reduction programs and the management of traditional recyclables, organic materials, and special wastes.
