An application聽to construct an energy recovery facility – which would incinerate waste and turn it into electricity –聽at Murdoch Place Oldhall West Industrial Estate was approved subject to conditions at North Ayrshire’s Planning Committee this week. Doveryard Ltd’s plans include the construction of a materials recycling and fuel preparation building and an energy recovery building to聽produce聽electricity and heat with a 60m high chimney.
The company estimate聽that between 25 and 30 permanent jobs would be created at the site with聽around 200 people聽employed聽during the three-year construction phase. Planning Committee chair Councillor Tom Marshall said: 鈥淚鈥檓 more than happy that this is going to go-ahead. It will bring a large capital investment and create a number of jobs.鈥
The plant would recover energy from waste materials that cannot be recycled,聽avoiding the聽waste materials going to landfill. Energy recovery would be achieved through incineration. The heat would then be used to produce steam, from which turbines would generate electricity that would both power the plant聽and聽the national grid.
