May 2025 will mark one year since a waste management company and nonprofit began accepting unwanted electronics for free recycling across 22 Pennsylvania counties. As of January, the partnership between Reworld and Goodwill Keystone collected more than 1.4 million pounds of e-waste.
The Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Center, which like Goodwill is also a nonprofit, recognized the program Jan. 31 for providing residents a no-cost, convenient option to dispose of their old electronics sustainably.
鈥淭his program provides an avenue for responsibly disposing electronic waste for millions of Pennsylvanians 鈥� reusing products that still have some life in them, and keeping the rest out of landfills,鈥� Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Acting Secretary Jessica Shirley said in a news release on the recognition. 鈥淭he 1.4 million pounds collected is an amazing accomplishment for Goodwill and Reworld, and is a fantastic outcome for Pennsylvania.鈥�
