Comerica Bank Executive Vice President, National Businesses for Energy, Renewables, and Waste, Joe Ursuy, has been elected to the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) Hall of Fame Class of 2025, announced by the NWRA.

The Hall of Fame inductees were chosen by NWRA鈥檚 Board of Trustees from a list of distinguished finalists compiled by the Association鈥檚 Awards Committee and selected based on scores in five categories, including: recognition in the industry as a founder, pioneer, visionary or icon; enduring legacy and impact of contributions to the industry for a minimum of 25 years; steadfast values such as integrity, respect, courage, mentorship, volunteerism and inclusiveness; inspirational leadership at an NWRA service provider or supplier and on issues important to NWRA at the national, state and/or local level; and active Association engagement and service as an ambassador of the industry.

鈥淛oe has built an enduring legacy at Comerica Bank through his relentless effort to help our clients succeed,鈥 said Peter Sefzik, Comerica Bank Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Banking Officer. 鈥淗e was the visionary in establishing Comerica鈥檚 environmental services department nearly two decades ago, which since has grown into an industry-leading division equipped to support waste and recycling companies well into the future. Clients rely on Joe because he has earned their trust through strong relationships and the extensive industry knowledge he provides as an advisor. His induction into the NWRA Hall of Fame is a well-deserved honor.鈥

Under Ursuy鈥檚 leadership, Comerica鈥檚 environmental services team supports a national platform focused on growing its commercial loan assets, while serving as trusted advisors with extensive industry knowledge and a strong relationship banking approach. Clients include waste management, recycling and energy businesses located throughout the US and Canada. In May 2022, Comerica expanded the Environmental Services Department with the introduction of a Renewable Energy Solutions Group dedicated to growing and supporting Comerica鈥檚 renewable energy business.

Prior to his current role, Ursuy served as Senior Vice President, Department Manager-Environmental Services, a department he was instrumental in establishing in 2006 among Comerica鈥檚 Commercial Banking divisions. Ursuy has also held various positions in Comerica鈥檚 Middle Market Banking Department since first joining Comerica as a Credit Analyst in 1998. The 27-year financial services industry veteran serves on Comerica鈥檚 Michigan Leadership Team. Additionally, Ursuy serves as a board member for the Environmental Research and Education Foundation in Raleigh, N.C., and is a frequent guest speaker at industry events. For the past three years, he has served as a coach to middle school and high school students through the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship.

The NWRA鈥檚 Hall of Fame is the ultimate industry recognition. Inductees are selected from among NWRA members who are industry visionaries and icons who have created an enduring legacy through their inspirational leadership, core values and significant contributions.

The NWRA Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will join the 212 inductees from 1986-2024 who have helped guide, build and transform the industry into what it is today. The distinguished leaders will be honored at the first annual Awards Gala during WasteExpo in Las Vegas on May 5, 2025.
