The City of Minot landfill is planning on expanding. Upon receiving authorization from the Minot City Council, the Minot Landfill started building another cell. The cell which is a seven-acre stretch of land will run south and is attached to the other dumping sites in the landfill, which is the area where Minot residents will be able to dump their garbage. Despite the landfill expanding, city officials say trash collection has not increased.
鈥淥ur numbers have been staying pretty consistent with our garbage and stuff. Our tonnage is around that 80,000 tons a year, so we have been staying pretty consistent with that number,鈥 said Allen Shefstad, a landfill foreman.
Even with trash collection remaining relatively the same, the city landfill is taking preventative measures in case the amount of garbage increases too quickly. By building cells in the landfill every five years, city officials hope to ensure that Minot will continue to have plenty of space to accommodate residents.
