For the second time this year, Cincinnati Recycling and Reuse Hub and Astronomer Dean Regas have collaborated to keep telescopes from entering landfills. Astronomy expert Dean Regas said that the event, “had a great response. There’s been so many people bringing in/dropping off their telescopes. This is our second time doing it – we did once in January, and we had sixteen telescopes come in. [Saturday has] been a little more than that.”

The ‘Telescope Recycle and Repair’ event was held at the Cincinnati Recycling and Reuse Hub. “When everybody hears I’m an astronomer, they say, ‘Oh I have a telescope I haven’t used before, how do I use it?’ and I thought, well I’ve been partnering and volunteering at the [Cincinnati] Recycling and Reuse Hub for a while, and I thought, let’s do an event where people can bring their telescopes in to get repairs, some advice and if they want to donate them, we can find new homes for them,” Regas added about the origin of this unique event.

For telescope repairs, advice, and tune-ups, a reservation was required. For folks who wanted to donate a telescope or telescope parts, there were no reservations. Telescopes and accessories in any condition were welcome. Regas and his team can repair, resell, or recycle used telescope parts to have them fully functional. All proceeds will be donated to the Cincinnati Recycling and Reuse Hub.
