BENLEE North America’s largest manufacturer of Roll Off Trailers has been made aware of a number of industry accidents involving Roll Off Trailers and Roll Off Trucks, involving operator error. Safety is #1 in all BENLEE does and is thought about and implemented in every design and build of every BENLEE Roll Off Trailer, Roll Off Truck, Open Top Trailer, Dump Trailer, and more.
Hitting Power Lines – In the past 6 weeks we know of two issues involving power lines, one involving a death. At BENLEE we always recommend the operator pay special attention to all of his surroundings, including people, vehicles and of course power lines above. This is a special warning and recommendation in our Operations Manual and is highlighted by a large sticker on our Roll Offs right near the controls. We have developed a new DANGER plaque/sign that is 12″ x 12,” is mounted right behind the controls, and says 鈥淟ook Up!鈥� These will be provided at our cost of $25, which includes a bracket. We are also now making standard upward/rearward facing work lights on all tarp systems, including BENLEE, Roll Rite, and other tarp systems which will help the operator see overhead power lines in the dark. These tarp lights will also be provided at our cost of $95.00 and includes two lights and a hoist up switch.
Hitting Overpasses – In the past 6 weeks we know of two issues involving hitting bridges as the result of driving with the hoist up. One of the incidents resulted in death because the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. Sadly, in almost every Roll Off Truck we see in our service operation, the hoist up alarm has been disabled by the driver. Going forward, we will require every driver to sign a document stating either that he is aware the alarm is disabled and does not want it fixed or that he wants us to fix it. While hoist up alarms are already standard on all Roll Off Trucks, effective this month, we are increasing our hoist up safety standard by adding a blinking light that the driver will be able to see in his rear view mirror. It will be activated by a hoist up switch. These can be ordered at our cost of $80.00 Just call 734-722-8100.
