The Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District announces the 2024 Recycling Heroes and urges people to celebrate the day by donating warm clothing to area thrift stores and local organizations. Locations of donation stops can be found on the new 鈥淒onate & Thrift Trail鈥 of the Athens-Hocking Recycling Trail, a unique and the world鈥檚 first of its kind resource and paper and online guide. The Trail was founded in 2023 by the Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District with the support of a Recycle Ohio grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

Every year on National Recycling Day, November 15, Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District recognizes individuals, businesses and/or groups for their commitment to Recycling. This year the 2024 Recycling Heroes have been dedicated to recycling for many years in their homes, community, schools and industrial facilities. The Heroes are recognized with a certificate bearing their names as Recycling Heroes and shared with the public.

鈥淲e thank each one of these Heroes for their efforts guiding and managing the district, for rescuing food, recycling tons of materials and using materials in their products, informing staff and students and collecting recycling and being an example to their family and community. We salute them and encourage everyone to strive to be a Recycling Hero,鈥 said Jane Forrest Redfern, Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District Director.
